Taiwan: The New Partner
The Business & Tourism Guide to Taiwan promotes bi-lateral relations between the Middle East countries and Taiwan...
By Jordy Sarkies in Dubai
One of the major stumbling blocks in bi-lateral relations between the Middle East and Taiwan was often identified as the absence of a direct airlink. That stumbling block has now been overcome with the start of a direct flight between Abu Dhabi and Taipei operated by the world renowned China Airlines.
China Airlines inaugurated the new Taipei-Abu Dhabi-Vienna passenger service with three flights per week on 25 April, 2006, using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft. As a result, the current Taipei-Vienna direct service will add a new stopover at Abu Dhabi, which will provide greater convenience for passengers travelling to and from the Middle East for business or pleasure.
The inaugural flight from Taipei landed in Abu Dhabi amidst much fanfare. The inaugural flight carried a high-powered delegation from various government departments as well as representatives from Taiwan's tourism industry and the media.
Speaking at a special press conference held in Abu Dhabi, Brian Chou, vice president marketing of China Airlines said: "By adding Abu Dhabi to its route network, CAL can now serve Taiwanese business travellers and tourists flying to the Middle East, and businessmen and tourists travelling from Central Europe to the Middle East."
The lauch of the Business & Tourism Guide to Taiwan, published with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan Tourism Bureau and the Representative Office of Taiwan (ROC) in Dubai, this special publication is aimed at improving bilateral trade and tourism ties between the Middle East countries and Taiwan.
Published in English and Arabic, the Business & Tourism Guide too Taiwan is distributed in six GCC countries and has played an important role in promoting direct business-to-business contacts between the business communities of Taiwan and the Middle East.
"Healthy economic and trade ties underpin the strong relationship between Taiwan and the Middle East," said Abdul Rahman G. Al Mutaiwee, Director-General of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the launch of the Business & Tourism Guide to Taiwan. "I congratulate the publishers of this publication for their efforts and wish them succcess in their endeavours in promoting bi-lateral relations with Taiwan," he said.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Andrew Chang, head of the Commercial Office of the ROC (Taiwan) in Dubai: "By promoting a better understanding between the peoples of Taiwan and the Middle East, this publication has bridged an important gap towards a bright and mutually beneficial relationship between Taiwan and the Middle East."
