Mauritius is fast gaining popularity among travellers from the Middle East and a large number of expatriates and nationals from GCC countries are now visiting Mauritius for a holiday. Emirates airline has been operating direct flights between Dubai and Port Louis to cater to this growing traffic. Increased demand from Middle East travellers prompted Emirates to recently introduce a First Class service on its Mauritius service and replace the two-class Airbus A330-200 aircraft, used on the route since the start of services, with the larger capacity, three-class Boeing 777-200.
"Although we have registered a healthy growth in the number of visitors from the Middle East region, there is still room for further growth," says Rameshwar Tupsy, Tourism Promotion Manager at the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA). "We will be organising and executing many more promotional activities to attract more tourists from the Middle East region," he said.
